Representatives in Wisconsin are seeking to expand Safe Haven laws in the state.
The new legislation would increase the age limit for dropping off newborns from 3 days to 30 days. I can see no real reason why there are states that have such a small window for Safe Haven protection. Any child older than 72 hours can still be legally given up anyway. It just seems to confuse and upset parents who have newborns that they do not feel able to take care of. Parents who miss the window may resort to desperate actions and babies may be harmed.
I hope the legislations passes. I also wish the age limit was the same for all states to prevent confusion.
