A 12 year old boy in Nebraska was dropped off at a hospital by his family.  What do you think about this?  If you recall, when the Safe Haven Laws first went into effect in Nebraska no age limit was set on the children that would be taken care of if their parents could not.  Born and raised in Nebraska myself, we heard stories about people from all over the country who would drive their children to Nebraska and leave them there.  Some were even teenagers.

This is a complicated issue to wrap your head around and truly take sides.  One the one hand, all children should be able to have a safe home.  Sometimes parents do not know about their inability to parent properly when their child is a newborn.  Sometimes this fact comes to light when the children are much older.  What should be done then?  Then, on the other hand, what kind of psychological damage is being done to these older children whose parents just drop them off and wave goodbye forever?  It is hard to imagine that any child would find a situation like this easy to handle.  Should the law make it okay?

Regardless, the law was changed several years ago to put age limits in place for children covered under the law.  The mother of this 12 year old boy could face charges if she is ever found.
