This article has some scary statistics. Since Safe Haven Laws were enacted in Los Angeles County 83 newborns were left with a Safe Haven location, but 66 were found abandoned in hazardous locations. Of course, the number abandoned may be much higher… they just may never have been found. Only 13 of these abandoned babies survived the harmful situations they were left in.
I have known many people with fertility problems that would love nothing more than to adopt a child. There are SO many homes in this country just waiting to be completed by a baby. The article reports that only 3 have been found abandoned since 2007 and that is wonderful, but… this is still way too many with the amount of resources available to new mothers.
