I already covered this issue, but I like this article. It brings up a good point.
Sometimes I feel like I’m advocating child abandonment. This is not my intention. Ideally, I would like to see these mothers use birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancy or take advantage of the plethora of assistance that we have in this country for new mothers. Yet, this is not an ideal world and it just does not happen that way all of the time. Many women do get pregnant unintentionally and many women do not understand how hard being a parent is until they have a child. At the point where they get so overwhelmed that they being contemplating ways to relieve themselves of their parental duties, that is when I become a fan of dropping these newborns off at Safe Haven locations. We have seen what the other options are. The child a few weeks ago who was found in a dumpster is an excellent example.
So, regardless of whether you agree with child abandonment, everyone should stand up for Safe Haven laws.
