I just read a story that gave me chills. A man was seen walking by some dumpsters with an infant wrapped in a blanket, kissed it, and started to put the child in the dumpster when he noticed he was being watched. The man took off and no one has been able to locate him or the infant.
What really gets me is the fact that he kissed the child. This tells me that he obviously loved the baby and did not wish to harm it. If that is the case, he must not know about Safe Haven laws which specifically state that if a newborn is dropped off at an approved Safe Haven location, the parent will face no charges or other repercussions. If he loved the child, there would be no other reason why he would use a dumpster as his means of relinquishing parental duties. WHY are there still people who don’t know about these laws? HOW else can we get this information out there? WHAT will you do to help?
