Hmm. This is a good article, but my thoughts on it are sort of unrelated.
It mentions that when parents drop a newborn off at a safe haven location, they are asked to provide more identifying information. This we know, but I had always it just included medical history that may affect the child later in life. Many, many parents do not answer these questions, because they are afraid they will not be able to remain anonymous. One more piece of information that is requested is date of birth. I’m sorry, let me say that again for effect. It is REQUESTED that the parent provide the child’s DATE OF BIRTH. To me, this means that many of these abandoned babies never know their birthday. That makes me so sad. I know it’s small, but this is yet another reason why getting information about Safe Haven Laws out is so important. Parents will not be scared to give information that will help the child.
