The article below is one of the most comprehensive articles I have seen on the implications of Safe Haven Laws.  Not only does is outline the laws themselves, but it also tells us about some of the babies who were not placed in a Safe Haven, and mainly illustrates to us the story of Mariah who was one of the lucky ones.  Back in 1993 before the Safe Haven Laws existed, Mariah’s mother showed up at a Norfolk, Virginia hospital to give birth telling the staff that she wished to give the baby up for adoption.  Four hours after baby Mariah was born, a hospital worker found that the mother had left.  Baby Mariah was placed in foster care with an amazing woman named Moira- who was physically unable to have a baby but had always wished for one- who eventually adopted her.

This is truly an excellent article and a touching story.  I love a true story with a happy ending.  I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Safe Haven Laws.  To read, please click here.
