I really enjoyed this article from the Huron Daily Tribune. I wish I could make everyone in the United States read it. It lays out Safe Haven Laws in exactly the right way so that everyone can understand and everyone gets all the facts.
The laws do not advocate abandonment. The laws certainly do not advocate teenage pregnancy. We just want children to be safe.
Something I do not believe we have mentioned here at One By One Safe Haven is that there is a toll-free crisis hotline provided by the National Safe Haven Alliance. They can offer support and guidance if you or someone you know is unclear about the laws or needs help. If you (or someone you know) have an infant that you cannot care for and have questions, please call (888) 510-BABY.
