An Alternative to Baby Abandonment
Our Mission at One-By-One is to offer information about Safe Haven Laws and an Alternative to Baby Abandonment.
We want to offer an alternative to infant abandonment. Each year hundreds if not thousands of infants are abandoned. Many perish. It’s a sad state of affairs when in our disposable society; newborn infants are also a disposable commodity.
Please, there is another solution. South Carolina, along with 44 other states, has adopted Safe Haven or Daniel’s Law (as the South Carolina Law is called). This law for the most part allows a young mother to take her newborn infant to any hospital in the state and give the infant to workers at the hospital. The mother does not have to give her name, and there is no risk of prosecution.
The hospital will give the mother a form asking for some basic information on the child. The mother can complete the form only if she wants to. The child will be fed, provided medical care, taken care of and eventually placed for adoption. There are thousands of good loving families waiting for such a blessing. The only problem with this law is that due to budgetary constraints, the state does not have the money to help get the word out.
Our organization, One-by-One Safe Haven, in conjunction with Heritage Community Services, Matrix Media and the Department of Social Services are working together in a public and private partnership to help get the word out through TV and print advertisements. Please help make young mothers aware of this wonderful alternative.
Our Goal and in fact Our Mission is to help these babies survive One-by-One.
