A mother dropped her son off at a hospital in Florida.  Sounds great, right?  Wrong.  The boy was 10.

Amanda Mathe dropped her autistic son of while maintaining custody of her two other children.  As you know, a 10-year-old is not covered under any Safe Haven Laws in the United States.  The mother is going through a divorce is getting evicted from her foreclosed home.  She had asked a judge for assistance and was turned away from several shelters.  She felt overwhelmed and unable to care for the boy.  The father, Erick Mathe, found out about the incident from the news and is now attempting to gain custody of all three children.

I would really like some thoughts on this.  I’m not sure what other solution she had.  I think there may be other moms out there who might have made the same decision.  I do not have children, but it makes me very uncomfortable that she chose to only abandon the one child.   Especially the one who needed the most care.
