This is a rather complicated legal issue that will be very interesting to follow.

A mother, Nunu Sung, 26, is currently in prison for abandoning her son in a neighbor’s yard.  The child would surely have died of hypothermia had a dog not alerted the owner’s attention to the boy.  The mother pled guilty in exchange for the prosecutor’s promise not to seek to take away her parental rights to the child.  The prosecutor appears to have taken this promise away because he believes it is in the best interests of the baby.
