Today’s article is short and sweet, but it’s got some great points.
First, a lot of women do not realize they are pregnant. TV shows like “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant” definitely illustrate that this is a phenomenon that occurs more often than you would think. Going into labor when you had no idea you were even pregnant, could definitely cause some panic. In that moment of confusion, some very bad things could happen. Knowledge of Safe Haven laws and knowing that the baby can be given to a safe place completely anonymously may relieve some of the stress.
Second, it mentions that parents should educate their teens on this. I have talked before about how schools really need to make this a part of their Sex Ed curriculum, but parents do, too! Any time a discussion about teen pregnancy comes up, Safe Haven should go right along with the other options out there. It may be awkward, but you could be saving the life of a child and your child from a lifetime in prison.
