Today’s article first got my attention because it is on Tom Osborne.  I grew up in Nebraska, am a forever Husker football fan, and Osborne is one of my long-time heroes.  This article demonstrates once again what an amazing man he is.

One point that got my attention is the mention that impoverished families are more likely to give up children.  This is not only because they cannot afford them, but also because they hope the child will be adopted into a family that will be able to provide a better life for them.  This makes a lot of sense and is one reason why cutbacks on funding for poverty-related programs like Medicaid really exacerbate other problems.

The article states that the number of children living in poverty just in Nebraska could easily fill Memorial Stadium.  Ouch.
