This article made me angry. A child was dropped off at a hospital in Billings and the mother will not face charges for abandonment, but I do not think she should be off the hook so easily.
She left the child in a bathroom by himself. Hospital workers determined that the infant could not have been by himself for more than 10 minutes based on the bathroom cleaning schedule, but the mother did not know that. In those 10 minutes a thousand terrible things could have happen to the baby. No Safe Haven Law that I am aware off states that you can drop an infant off anywhere on the premises of a hospital. They have to be put in a safe place. I am glad the infant is okay, but I really hope that this will not start a trend. Everyone needs to be aware that there is a right way and a wrong way to legally relinquish parental rights.
