A Florida baby was dropped off at a fire station with a note from the birth mother that said “I’m sorry.”  The baby was alive and well, but barely an hour old with the umbilical cord still attached.  It seems unlikely that she was born in a hospital due to the age of the newborn.

She will be covered under Florida’s Safe Haven Laws and the mother will not be prosecuted for leaving it at the St. Lucie County Fire District’s headquarters.  Safe Haven Laws in the area, amended in 2008, allow children up to seven days old to be granted safe haven at a fire station, hospital, or other medical facility.  Full article found here.
