This is a new and interesting story.
A mother, angry with her husband, decided to take her 1 and 2 year old children to a nearby fire station and dropped them off. The husband and father was notified and he came to get them the same day, but this raises some issues.
If a mother drops a child off at a Safe Haven location, should it be required for the father to be notified? It seems like common sense for this to be the case, but how can this be enforced? Some cases of infant abandonment stem from a mother who was raped, does not know who the father is, or has no contact with the father at the time of delivery. How then could paternal notification be required?
I’m stumped. Any thoughts?
