A newborn baby boy was abandoned by his mother and left on a front porch. “Baby Nicholas” was not found until several hours later when the Renovato family awoke to find the shivering infant. Strangely, the family seems to have absolutely no connection to the child. It appears that the parent who left the child chose the Renovato house at random. The family called 911 and the baby was brought to the hospital in critical condition due to the 50 degree weather he was exposed to. After being treated, his condition was upgraded to fair. The state is accepting donations for Baby Nicholas and all funds will be earmarked specifically for his care.
This is unacceptable. This mother obviously did not know about the Safe Haven laws in her state. She admitted that she could not care for her baby, but did not know that there were safe places to take him. If found she could face charges of child abuse for leaving him on a cold doorstep instead of anonymously leaving him in the care of her local hospital. Please help us help children stay safe!
Initial report can be found here. Follow-up on the baby’s condition can be read here.
