I have another update on a story I reported not long ago: the mother who was charged with filing a false police report because of an abandoned child. Friends of the woman say that they do not believe she deserved to have charges filed against her.
I could not disagree more. A police report is a big deal. There is no excuse for lying on a document like this. A simple internet search or phone call to a local hospital or police station could have helped her gain a better understanding of Safe Haven Laws and the fact that there was no reason to be less than honest. I do wish she had not lied on the police report because I respect that she did not place her baby is harm’s way like so many other parents do. She probably has a good chance of getting a plea bargain. Hopefully, justice will be served and this case will be held up as a general deterrent for future parents.
