Benjamin T. LaMarche, 18

I have another update for you, readers.  The parents of the newborn that was abandoned by a church dumpster went to court a few weeks ago.  Although the outcome has not been decided as of the time I am writing this, a few more details have come to light.

I wish I could say they somehow justify why this child was placed in danger, but they do not.  It does partially appease me to know there was some thought put into the actions, however.  The young mother, Nadia Zahirudin, 17, gave birth in her bathroom and then called the father, Benjamin LaMarche, 18, to take it to a hospital.  She had tried to locate a better place by searching for ‘adoption’ in the phone book, to no avail.

Instead of bringing the baby to the hospital, LaMarche was afraid he would be brought up on statutory rape charges since his girlfriend was underage and left it outside the church.  He claims he honked as he drove away to be sure someone would be alerted to the child’s presence.  Of course, we now know that it was not seen until sometime later resulting in mild hypothermia.  Neither were familar with Safe Haven Laws.
