Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse than a father dropping a cinderblock on his newborn baby…
…until I see this article where 16-year-old Rebecca Blackmore actually stabbed her infant and left it in a closet to die. First of all, where were this girl’s parents? Did no one notice that she was pregnant? Did her school not educate this young girl on what her options were? When I was in high school less than a decade ago, everyone was required to take a Child Development course. We learned all about birth control, adoption, and the plethora of help out there to assist new mothers. Safe Haven Laws were also widely publicized at their inception.
In addition to Blackmore’s own irresponsible behavior and reckless disregard for a human life, every adult who knew about this pregnancy should be ashamed. For now, the girl has been charged with 1st degree murder. Typically, I am an advocate of juveniles being tried in juvenile court… but this case makes me rethink that position. Do you think she should be tried as an adult?
